Warwick International Relations Society, Warwick MUN Society and Warwick Economics Society are delighted and honoured to present Sir Mark Lyall Grant, one of the UK’s most distinguished diplomats and a prominent expert in international affairs. As the UK’s former Ambassador to the United Nations and National Security Adviser, his experience and knowledge in international security are unparalleled. It will surely be an incredible talk given the tense mood in global affairs amidst Trump, Brexit, the North Korea Crisis and Middle Eastern tensions.
Sir Mark Lyall Grant KCMG served as the National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister from September 2015 till April 2017. He is a career diplomat and has served on four continents. Prior to his appointment as National Security Adviser, he was the UK Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2009 to 2015), Director General Political in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where he was the Principal Adviser to the Foreign Secretary on strategic foreign policy issues (2007 to 2009) and UK High Commissioner to Pakistan (2003 to 2006). In his earlier postings he served in Paris, Pretoria, worked on EU and Africa policy and as Private Secretary to the Minister for Europe in the FCO.
